A CRIM team member since 1997, Claude Chapdelaine contributed to the development and evaluation of leading edge computer technologies projects in the fields of automatic speech recognition and vision and imaging. In the past, she had responsibility for a project whose objective was to improve the generation of closed-captioning subtitles for the deaf or hard-of-hearing using techniques designed to track ocular movements. She is also involved in projects relating to the detection of facial expressions and she is a certified FACS coder for facial expression. She has mainly been involved in the design and evaluation of innovative assisted technologies such as real-time captioning for deaft or heard of hearing individuals and providing videodescription for the blind and the visually impaired.

Claude Chapdelaine has an M.A.Sc. in the field of human-machine interaction. In her previous role as a human factor consultant, she collaborated on several projects relating to leading edge computer technologies. From 1991 to 1996, while at CITI (Centre for Information Technologies Innovation), she conducted experimental research on usability and navigation issues associated with multimedia and large bodies of information.
