Françoys Labonté joins CRIM’s team

Montréal, August 25, 2010

Daniel Blanche, CRIM’s President and CEO, is pleased to announce the appointment of Françoys Labonté as Director of Business Development, R&D and Commercialization.

“We are very pleased to welcome Françoys into this strategic position. He will be an invaluable asset for CRIM. His duties will include supporting Jacques Ouellet, CRIM’s R&D Vice-President, by forging alliances and undertaking research projects with Quebec companies. He will also promote our teams’ research findings and help us to develop an intellectual property policy. In addition to solid scientific training, Françoys has both corporate and academic experience, making him the ideal intermediary for applied research and the industrial sector,” said Mr. Blanche.

CRIM supports businesses throughout the technology development and appropriation process. The organization is recognized for its expertise in high-growth sectors in which innovation is a constant challenge, such as voice/image analysis and processing, automated indexing, modelling and semantic content analysis, to name but a few.

Jacques Ouellet, Senior Vice-President, R&D and Commercialization, added: “Françoys will be facing a number of major challenges. Our research teams have formulated a wide range of ideas and projects and are looking forward to placing their knowledge at the service of Quebec companies that develop or use emerging technologies. Thanks to his extensive experience in the research sector, as well as at McGill University’s Office of Technology Transfer and in the corporate world, he has a clear understanding of CRIM’s specific situation.”

Françoys Labonté said: “I am proud to be joining CRIM, an organization with which I’m very familiar and with which I will share my expertise with a view to stepping up our promotional efforts. I will be seeking to develop CRIM’s client network in more diversified sectors, now that technology is a ubiquitous feature in all markets. We must ensure that Quebec companies are familiar with the full range of services that CRIM offers.”

Prior to joining CRIM, Françoys held the position of technology transfer officer at McGill University for five years. From 2001 to 2004, he served as IT strategic positioning consultant and R&D director at Arthtrovision. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from McGill University, in addition to master’s and doctoral degrees from Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique.
