Background
CRIM launched its automatic speech recognition activities in 1985. More than
twenty years later, Montréal is now an established and important global player in the field and
there is little doubt that the efforts deployed by CRIM, along with INRS-Telecommunications and
Bell-Northern Research, were at the genesis of the international recognition awarded to the
city.
