Langis Gagnon has extensive R&D experience, acquired in both the university and industrial
settings. He received a Ph.D. in Physics-Mathematics from Université de Montréal in 1988. Until
1995, he was senior research officer at Centre d'Optique, Photonique et Laser of Université Laval,
Centre de Recherches Mathématiques of Université de Montréal and Laboratoire de Physique Nucléaire
of Université de Montréal. From 1995 to 1998, he was senior specialist at Lockheed Martin Canada.
His work involved developing radar-image processing tools for aerial surveillance applications.
His initial mandate, upon joining CRIM in 1998, was to re-launch vision and imaging activities
within CRIM’s R&D department. He is now Lead Researcher and Team Director. He contributes to
and manages various visual information processing and analysis projects for applications in medical
imaging, quality inspection, audio-visual indexation, video surveillance, human-system visual
interaction, satellite imaging, etc.
Langis Gagnon has published close to 150 scientific articles relating to the fields of image
processing, object recognition and math-based non-linear optical modelling. He is a member of SPIE,
ACM, IEEE, AIA and IASTED.
