Agile Laboratory: virtual and shareable
To formally evaluate various types of requirements (such as functional specifications or
application interoperability), CRIM has developed a dynamic multi-user hardware/software
infrastructure designed to support a wide variety of applications and testing types. To control the
virtual environment, lab management and operations are carried out by adapting tools such as HP’s
Quality Center testing platform, integrated within VMware’s
Lab Manager. CRIM’s accredited facility meets ISO 17025 standards for quality control.
Thanks to server virtualization (applications are independent of the physical structure), most
information systems can be used in the agile laboratory; the only constraint is posed by systems
with specific hardware setups, such as medical equipment. Even then, however, suppliers can perform
remote testing with VPN secure access.
Wide variety of testing options
Using virtualized infrastructure, evaluators can carry out the following types of testing as
needed within specific contexts:
- Functional testing (manual/automated)
- Interoperability testing
- Integration testing
- Stability testing
- System testing (when multiple components are used)
- Ergonomic testing
- Utilization testing (online assistance, language quality)
- User productivity testing
- Report testing
- Data integrity testing
- Operational testing
- Portability testing (e.g. Linux, Win, AIX)
- Log testing
- Regression testing with previous versions
- Coexistence testing
- Response time testing (availability)
- Performance and load testing
- Security testing (vulnerability, intrusion, standard requirements)
- Configuration testing
- Regulatory compliance testing
- Installation testing
- Backup testing
- Documentation testing
- Training evaluation
- Recovery testing
