CANGEO, a Web service based on Landsat-8 imagery for the update of the national hydrographic vectors

CANGEO is a Web service based on Landsat-8 imagery for the update of the national hydrographic vectors. The system ingests multispectral imagery over Canada and updates the waterbody outlines using an image processing software (AutoCarto) developed at CRIM.

Traditionally, the update of the hydrological network in Canada was done manually with updates every decade because of the very large number of objects to process. CANGEO can improve the production processes of cartographers. The gain in productivity resides in the location of objects for which significant changes are observed and that require visual inspection.

Partner: A project financed by CANARIE.
