Human-machine interaction and cognitive ergonomics

The modes of interaction with systems are becoming evermore varied and sophisticated. Many of our research projects exploit the visual analysis of the end-user in order to improve human-machine interaction. The investigation of gaze and visual attention, the identification of movements, the tracking of facial muscular movements and the recognition of facial expressions are exploited to better comprehend the user’s intention in order to supply it with a more user-friendly system. Furthermore, within the contexts of training or support to users, computer vision systems can serve to analyze the behaviors and emotional states of human subjects. For example, they are capable of detecting signs of stress, fatigue or distraction. The development of our technologies rests on a solid expertise in cognitive ergonomics. In addition, we hold a FACS (Facial Action Coding System) certification for the classification of facial expressions.
