Smart Cities

Professor Tho Le-Ngoc, hSite Theme Leader at McGill University.

Creating a smart city with all kinds of smart sensors/actuators well connected in large-area networks to make inhabitants’ lives more comfortable in different applications has been a desire for decades. Recent advances in communications & networking, pervasive computing, machine learning, and IoT (Internet-of-Things) have enabled this dream to become a reality.

In this talk, we will discuss the motivation, potential applications, definitions, architectures, examples, and related research fields, and challenges surrounding the idea of a smart city.

The CRIM Research and Development (R&D) regularly organises scientific seminars to foster the scientific curiosity of students, academics, industry and CRIM employees. Lecturers are internationally renowned experts; professors in CRIM’s partner universities; CRIM R&D personnel and graduate students.
