Abstract: Boltzmann machines have re-asserted themselves recently as a powerful class of probabilistic models which can be brought to bear on a variety of pattern recognition problems. In particular, they play a key role in the construction of deep neural networks for speech recognition, an area which has seen a flurry of research activity recently. This presentation aims to survey the recent literature on the subject for the benefit of researchers working in speech processing.
