Françoys Labonté, Eng., Ph.D.

Executive Director

Francoys Labonté has more than 20 years of experience in the information  technology sector, notably in the areas of research, development, technology transfer and commercialization. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A.Sc. from Polytechnique Montréal and a B.Eng. from McGill University. Mr. Labonté joined the CRIM in August, 2010 as Director, Business Development, Innovation and Commercialization. He took over the position of Executive Director of CRIM in March, 2015.

Françoys Labonté combines a solid scientific foundation with many years of experience in the development and commercialization of innovative technologies in the information technology domain. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Polytechnique Montréal in 1997, with a specialization in computer vision and image processing, Françoys worked during eight years for companies at the forefront of technological innovation, mainly in the medical imaging field. During these years, he had the opportunity to develop a multidisciplinary expertise covering key elements related to the management of technological enterprises, ranging from new products development to their introduction to the market.

Françoys then joined the Office of Technology Transfer of McGill University as Information Technologies Officer, where he worked for more than five years. His main responsibilities included assessing the commercial potential of new inventions, developing and implementing intellectual property protection strategies, and commercializing new technologies.
