The beginnings of a vision <\/a><\/h2>

1985 marked a turning point. On June 1, two major research teams were launched: the VLSI team led by Dr Nicholas Rumin (McGill) and the Telematics team led by Dr Gregor Bochmann (Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al). Funding of $2.7 million from the MESSQ will support these projects over five years.<\/p>\n

In the fall, CRIM moves to downtown Montreal, officially inaugurating its new premises on October 31.<\/p>\n

This inauguration coincides with the arrival of a VAX 8600 supercomputer and the setting up of a DECNET network linking the partner universities.<\/p>\n1985<\/span><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

New laboratories, new projects<\/a><\/h2>

1988 saw the arrival of Pierre Coulombe as head of CRIM. The Center inaugurates its laboratories in April in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Science. Numerous projects are taking shape, including voice recognition, electrical equipment diagnostics, weather forecasting and much more.<\/p>\n1988<\/span><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Project diversification<\/a><\/h2>

CRIM is developing major projects with Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, IBM, DMR, CGI and IREQ. The Centre is positioned as a catalyst for collaborative projects with a strong technological component.<\/p>\n1991<\/span><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Reorganization and reinforcement of R&D projects<\/a><\/h2>

1997-1998 was marked by a strategic internal reorganization to optimize the coordination of research teams. Strengthening R&D and training activities<\/a><\/h2>

The year 2002-2003 was marked by continued growth in R&D projects and training. CRIM collaborated on 68 R&D projects. Partnerships with CRIQ and Precarn Associates Inc. continued to play a strategic role in expanding the CRIM network. High-profile guests<\/a><\/h2>

A new direction in commercial development<\/a><\/h2>

CRIM moves its offices from downtown Montreal to its current location in Parc-Extension.<\/p>\n

CRIM launches Confiance IA<\/a>, a major consortium supported by $4.5 million in government funding.
