The RISQ network connected \u2013 and still connects \u2013 Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s higher education institutions and research centers to allow them to exchange data quickly, making it the first active Internet network in Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p>In 1998,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.risq.qc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RISQ<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0became an organization in its own right, now called the\u00a0<strong>R\u00e9seau d\u2019informations scientifiques du Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, keeping the acronym RISQ. RISQ thus played a key role in the birth of the Internet in Qu\u00e9bec.
