UEAT and CRIM develop a dish recommendation system using AI

Thanks to a partnership with CRIM, UEAT developed a meal recommendation system using artificial intelligence. This is an added value for customers and restaurateurs alike, since the system offers the former more targeted recommendations and the latter an optimization of their menus. UEAT creates and markets intelligent and innovative ordering solutions for restaurants.
The goal is to enable industry professionals to increase their revenues, limit losses and build customer loyalty. UEAT’s technological tools are used by restaurant owners in Quebec, but also in Canada and the rest of the world.

CRIM experts first met with the UEAT team as part of an Interactive Visit, a short-term technological accompaniment made possible by NRC-IRAP. CRIM experts provided recommendations to UEAT on its R&D plan, timeline, potential risks and the essential aspects of carrying out a high-value-added project that respects the organisation’s resources.

Following this phase, UEAT decided to officially launch its project, in collaboration with CRIM. For nearly a year and a half, the two teams developed a proof of concept: the idea was to see if the artificial intelligence algorithms could be used to customize the system’s recommendations.

The technological tool that UEAT is currently developing is a model of meal recommendations based on the context of the order. Taking into account not only the user’s preferences and the popularity of the dishes, this new system integrates data on the time of day, weather, parties and events, restaurant geolocation, etc. The algorithms therefore make it possible to achieve a product tailored to the realities and needs of all restaurateurs, regardless of their type of cuisine, geography, menus, etc. This opens up a large market for UEAT.
